The city of Grand Junction could be seeing two new roundabouts at the Horizon Drive/I-70 interchange.

KREX-TV reports the project, if approved, would cost $5.25 million, but does not say where funding for the project would come from.

Authorities want to slow down traffic and reduce the number of accidents, as was the case when the roundabout at 12th and Horizon Drive was installed more than 15 years ago. If the agreement is approved, the street signals  on Visitors Way from the eastbound on and off ramps would be taken out.

When it comes to roundabouts opinions tend to be varied - from those who are strongly opposed and think they are a waste, to those who strongly believe in the benefit of roundabouts.

I have mixed feelings about it. The westbound on and off ramps don't seem to be much of a problem, but the intersection on the east side of the interstate is not good.  There's a lot of moving parts, plus long stop-light waits for eastbound and westbound traffic even during light traffic times.A roundabout  or two on Horizon drive might not be a bad idea at all.
