Etiquette sme-tiquette! At least that's how I felt when I was a kid, as an adult I think, Those dang whippersnappers are tearing up my yard! Here's some tips to make sure EVERYONE enjoys Halloween!

I was talking with a friend the other day about how rude some trick or treaters can be. It seems like parents aren't passing down Halloween etiquette to their children because when I was a kid this stuff was common sense!

Tips for ghouls & boys:

  1. Only houses with their front porch light ON are expecting trick or treaters!
    • If my light is off and you knock on my door, DON'T be upset when I don't have any candy, and DON'T T.P. my house for it either-that's why the light was OFF!
  2. If someone lets you choose what piece of candy you want out of the bucket ONLY take ONE piece!
    • Otherwise I have to shut off my porch light early and other kids miss out and my house gets T.P.'d (see above)
  3. WATCH for children that are younger/smaller than you. Remember they move slower than and are less coordinated than you!
    • Do NOT KNOCK them down, or you will have to sit and listen to them cry with me . . .
  4. When going into someone's yard BE-CAREFUL where you walk and keep to their paths or sidewalks.
    • DO NOT walk through the yard, flower beds, gardens, etc. or I may never hand out FULL size candy bars again!
  5. Do NOT leave a trail of decimated candy wrappers behind you as you go from door to door.
    • As a matter of fact I would make it a rule to NOT eat any candy before it's inspected by an adult! Especially homemade treats unless they come from someone you know!

Tips for candy givers:

  1. Turn your porch light on
  2. Be mindful of the warning in #5 above! I know a lot of people like to go to the trouble of handing out really AWESOME homemade treats and believe me I think they're cool and I bet they're even DELICIOUS! But if I don't personally know you they are going in the trash! There are just too many weirdos out there these days, to take a chance! So DON'T-just buy a bag of generic goodies instead . . .
