Congratulations, Colorado. We were the best at being the worst on Wednesday when we had the coldest temperature in the nation.

We knew it was going to be cold Tuesday night and Wednesday morning in Colorado. It was known that Gunnison was going to be well into the negatives. As it turns out, according to the National Weather Service, Gunnison had the lowest temp in the nation with a brutal -24 degrees.

Earlier Tuesday (February 4), the National Weather Service predicted Gunnison would reach -16 Wednesday morning. Another Colorado town, Walden, was expected to hit -17. As it turns out, Gunnison won the prize.

Okay, I'm failing to mention one thing. It seems another town in the U.S. tied with Gunnison for the lowest temp. An area 25 miles east of Ely, MN, tied at -24.

Way to go, Gunnison. To my knowledge, there's no award or prize to be won for being the coldest. There certainly should be. In case you're interested, according to weather.com, the coldest temperature ever recorded in the state of Colorado was -61. That was on February 1, 1985, in Maybell, Colorado.
