Nearly 800 miles of the trail is home in Colorado starting at the border of New Mexico south of Cumbres Pass and ending the state's trail northeast of Steamboat Springs heading into Wyoming. If you were to hike the entire trail in the state of Colorado, you would experience:

  • The alpine tundra of the South San Juan, Weminuche, and La Garita wilderness.
  • The 1800's ghost town of Hancock
  • Collegiate Peaks near Leadville
  • The Windo, Knife Edge, and Devil's Thumb
  • The highest point of the Continental Divide Trail at Grays Peak, 14,270 feet of elevation.
  • Rocky Mountain National Park
  • Never Summer Wilderness
  • Mount Zirkel Wilderness
