I know there were tons of people that were excited about the opportunity to ride on carnival rides and eat delicious and unhealthy fair food this weekend at the Mesa County Fairgrounds but unfortunately, we got the news last night that the carnival was packing up and leaving town early.

The Carnival was supposed to be here from the 15th through the 25th, and we had carnival wristbands that we were going to be giving away this week but neither of those things are going to continue. From the email that I received last night the reason for the early departure from the Mesa County Fairgrounds is because of the recent increase in COVID-19 cases.

Mesa County Public Health is talking about moving back to the 'Safe at Home' phase of this pandemic reopening plan which would eliminate the opportunity for the carnival to continue anyway, so instead of waiting to see if they can continue the carnival is making the decision to leave early.

It's unfortunate that this is happening, but this whole year has been unfortunate. This seems to just be one more thing to add to the list that the coronavirus pandemic has thrown a wrench into. But when it comes to safety, it is important to think about people beyond ourselves, so I understand where the carnival company is coming from and I fully understand Mesa County Public Health.

This is a tough situation we are all trying to navigate, hopefully, COVID-19 numbers begin to decrease again in hopes of having more activities in the near future.
