The man involved in the shooting, 57-year-old Allan George has died and the Garfield County Coroner is now investigating the case. Any witnesses who have information are being asked to come forward.


The Colorado River bridge near the I-70 exit was closed last night (8-5) as gunfire was exchanged between Rifle Police and an as-yet-unnamed shooter.

Two officers stopped a man on the bridge around 7:30 last night near Whiteriver Avenue which resulted in shots being fired and a man transported to the hospital for his wounds.

When the officers made contact with the individual it escalated quickly with the subject and the officers trading gunfire, which is why the bridge was closed last night and remained closed overnight while the scene was investigated. The two officers have been placed on administrative leave while the case is investigated.
