Two Great Western Colorado Reservoirs Now Open for Boating Season
Ready to get your boat out on the water? Maybe you're ready to start with something smaller like kayaks and paddleboards? Well, the rest of Colorado is right behind you.
We got great news from Colorado Parks and Wildlife that both Rifle Gap Reservoir and Harvey Gap Reservoir have now opened for the 2022 boating season. Let's take a look at what both parks have to offer.
Water Activities at Rifle Gap and Harvey Gap Reservoirs
Both Harvey Gap and Rifle Gap Reservoirs sit just over an hour down the road from Grand Junction. It's a quick trip up the road and you are ready for a day at the reservoir.
The main difference between the two is size. Harvey Gap Reservoir is a bit more relaxed. Boat motors must be under 20 horsepower here and the water is a better fit for easy activities like paddleboarding, canoeing, and sailing. Rifle Gap Reservoir is home to more high-energy water sports like jet-skiing or water-skiing. Rifle Gap is the larger of the two bodies of water.
Boating at Colorado's Rifle Gap State Park
Remember that Colorado Parks and Wildlife will require you to have your boat inspected for harmful aquatic nuisance species before your boat can enter the water.
Be sure your personal flotation devices are in great shape for the water, and remember that anyone under the age of 13 must wear a lifejacket. Boats should always display clear registration numbers that are easily visible.
Tips to Remember at Colorado's Harvey Gap Reservoir
While there is tons of fun on the water at Harvey Gap it should be mentioned that pets are not allowed in the Harvey Gap Reservoir. This location is day use only but you can find camping over by Rifle Gap and Rifle Falls. Fireworks are not allowed at Harvey Gap Reservoir either.
