From Alamosa to Watkins, The Centennial State has nearly two dozen airports. It makes you wonder where people are going to/headed from at each location.

When I heard that Colorado has just shy of twenty airports, I thought, 'Really? That seems like a lot; where are they?'

Though air travel is down dramatically since the pandemic began, air travel will increase eventually and it's good to know where you (or friends and family) can get to via plane; it could make for an adventure.

Here are the 19 airports that Colorado has.

Denver International Airport

Denver International Airport is one of the nation’s top airports and one of the few with so many ‘conspiracy’ theories about it. Blucifer doesn’t help, in that regard.

Northern Colorado Regional Airport

Loveland

The Northern Colorado Regional Airport is one of two airports in the country testing a ‘remote’ air traffic control tower and will feature the Great Colorado Air Show in October of 2021.

Alamosa/San Luis Valley Regional Airport

Alamosa

The San Luis Valley Regional Airport has daily flights to DIA through United Airlines. Alamosa’s slogan is ‘Expected the Unexpected.’ You could go skiing or try out ‘sandboarding.’

Aspen/Pitkin County Airport

Aspen

The Aspen-Pitkin County Airport handles several flights a day with United and American Airlines from cities across the country. Pilots need to be specially certified to land at Aspen, as the runway lies between two mountains and requires a quick descent to land.

Black Canyon Jet Center

The Black Canyon Jet Center manages the fixed-base operations for general aviation at the Montrose Regional Airport.

Centennial Airport

Centennial

The Centennial Airport, is known as a ‘reliever’ airport for DIA, does not handle regular airline service. Chartered and corporate flights are their business.

Colorado Air & Space Sport

The Colorado Air & Space Port in Watkins is not far from DIA and handles flight schools and other services, including aerospace flights.

Colorado Springs Airport

The Colorado Springs Airport boasts about being ‘Colorado’s Small Airport’ that's 'Big on Love,’ but they do handle larger airline flights to L.A. Southwest Airlines will begin servicing Colorado Springs with five destinations beginning in 2021.

Cortez Municipal Airport

Cortez Municipal Airport serves Cortez and the entire Montezuma County area with Boutique Air. You could visit Mesa Verde National Park and then fly out to Phoenix, Prescott (Arizona) or to DIA.

Delta Blake Field Airport

Delta Blake Field Airport, run by Smiling Aviation, is a small airport. They have an almost ‘pit stop’ kind of feel for small plane travelers, where they offer gas and repairs. I would hazard against referring to them as ‘Delta Burke’ Field.

Durango/La Plata County Airport

The Durango-La Plata County Airport handles about 400,000 passengers a year, with flights to Denver, L.A, Phoenix and Dallas with American and United Airlines. You could fly down and check out the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.

Eagle County Regional Airport

Gypsum is home to the Eagle County Regional Airport, where folks fly into when headed to ski in Vail, Beaver Creek, etc. I bet there are lots of stories that that airport could tell.

Grand Junction Airport

Grand Junction Regional Airport handles commercial and military flights. It is also part of firefighting efforts in the area. American, Delta, Allegiant, Denver Air and United Airlines fly in and out of Grand Junction, including a new flight to Chicago.

Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport

The Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport touts itself as the ‘Gateway to the Heart of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains’ with two daily flights to Denver.

Montrose Regional Airport

Montrose Regional Airport may sound small, but it does have two locations inside of it for Horsefly Brewing. If you get the chance to go into Montrose, I recommend a few games of bowling at The Rose Bowl.

Pueblo Memorial Airport

The Pueblo Memorial Airport, a SkyWest/United Airlines hub, has a great little café— Paul’s In & Out Restaurant.

Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport

The Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport, south of Interlocken in Broomfield, is Colorado’s fourth-busiest airport, used mostly by ‘corporate’ jets and maybe the occasional jet-setting shopper checking out Flatirons Crossing, as well.

Telluride Regional Airport

Telluride Regional Airport is located on Last Dollar Road, as Telluride is famous for its Last Dollar Saloon.

Yampa Valley Regional Airport

The Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Hayden flies you into the Steamboat area in Northwest Colorado. The airport recently welcomed Southwest Airlines as a travel partner.
