It’s awful that the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo got hit by such a frightful storm on August 6, 2018. I love the Zoo in Colorado Springs. I grew up in Woodland Park, up the pass from Colorado Springs and it’s a wonderful memory.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is one of the best zoos in the nation. On August 6, the zoo knew to prepare for a storm, but had no idea that they would get hit as bad as they did. Unfortunately, some of the animals didn’t make it to shelter in time. Sadly, a Cape vulture and Muscovy Duck didn’t make it through the storm.

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is known for their excellence. It’s the only mountain zoo and is recognized to go above and beyond the protocol. Their education programs have been top notch ever since I can remember. I remember being involved with several summer camps and loving it all.

The community is coming together to help support and restore what has been destroyed and bring aid to the employee’s that were injured. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo's website has a link available If you want more details, and/or would like to donate

The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo will be opening again on Saturday, August 11.
