Fallen firefighters will now always have a final place to rest, thanks to a collaboration between the Poudre Fire Authority (PFA) and the City of Fort Collins.

The two organizations worked together to create a new burial site, which covers six plots in the Grandview Cemetery. It has been reserved for firefighters that sacrifice their lives in the line of duty.

The site also contains an ossuary, or a vessel designed to hold remains.

Firefighters, PFA civilian personnel, and their family members can opt to have their ashes placed in the ossuary, so that firefighters can remain with their family and their colleagues.

The PFA has had a site in Grandview Cemetery for the last 100 years, with several plots currently serving as the burial location for firefighters and their families.

However, the six plots, which now make up the new site, were the only remaining plots for the PFA. With a limited amount of space left, it was clear that it needed to be reserved for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The site's dedication took place last Friday (October 4). Photos from the occasion can be found on their Facebook page.
