Apparently he's in trouble for holding up a magazine during the show, that's illegal to possess in D.C. When I read this story I couldn't believe there was a magazine that it's illegal to possess, but then I realized what they were talking about . . .

According to the AP Washington, D.C., police in Washington, D.C. are investigating NBC's David Gregory to decide whether he broke the law by using a 30-round gun magazine on Meet the Press Sunday.

Now when I initially read the story I thought they were talking about a magazine that sold guns . . . but what they are referring to is a gun magazine that holds over 30 rounds of ammunition and is illegal to possess in D.C.

Apparently the network received conflicting information about whether it was legal to hold up the magazine during the show. The Washington police told them the high capacity magazine was illegal, however the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives  said it was okay to display the magazine as long as it was empty, which was incorrect.

In my line of work we're always encouraged to err on the side of caution, it saddens me that the news agency felt the impact-fulness of the prop was more important than adhering to the law.
