Mesa County Sheriff’s Office List of Halloween Safety Suggestions
Is your Halloween costume ready to go? October 31 is coming up quick, so here's hoping you're ready. The Mesa County Sheriff's Office requests you keep these tips in mind when putting together your costume.
Looking at this list, a couple of items never really entered my mind. They make perfect sense, though. According to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, via their Facebook page, you should:
- Make sure it is fire-safe
- Can you see?
- Don't trip! Make sure it fits!
- Props: Not too real! Don't want you to get hurt!
- Take a picture! If you get lost, it will help us fine you!
Looking back at my youth, I don't recall ever concerning myself with things such as fire safety or dangerous props.
I'm glad Halloween has rebounded here in Western Colorado. Back in the 1980's, in the middle of the Tylenol poisoning scare and the Visine acid tampering, Halloween, or at least trick-or-treating, almost disappeared in Grand Junction. I'm glad kids nowadays can go out and have fun celebrating a very cool holiday.
Put these tips from the Mesa County Sheriff's Office to use. There are several opportunities to wear your costume between now and Halloween. Take advantage of all of them. More than anything, have fun and be safe.
