The Mesa County Sheriff's Department responded to a call of an assault in progress and found one person at the scene with what could be considered a nearly lethal amount of alcohol in his system.

When Sheriff's Deputies arrived at the scene near the Connected Lakes area, they found a group of people who were intoxicated.

One of those, a 53-year-old man who was driving away in his car, was stopped and consented to a breath test that showed a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of 0.348. A person is considered legally drunk with a BAC of 0.08.

Someone with a BAC of 0.40 is considered to have consumed a potentially lethal amount of alcohol. The man, who's name was not released in the initial report, received medical attention and was arrested on DUI charges.

There were no injuries reported and none of those involved in the reported altercation wanted to press charges.
