The historic Whitewater Cemetery will be open for visitors during the Memorial Day Weekend. Please make plans to visit.

Have you visited the Whitewater Cemetery? You should. According to the Whitewater Cemetery Association, the gate will be open beginning mid-morning Friday, May 24, through Monday evening, May 27. There is the walk-thru gate which is always open. Should you drive in, you are asked to drive only on the gravel roads.

A new flag will be installed for the weekend. It will be lowered to half-mast on Friday, and then raised Monday afternoon.

Did you know there are four Civil War veterans buried at the Whitewater Cemetery? When you stop and think about it, this is truly amazing. The American Civil Ended in 1865, a full 17 years before Grand Junction was even founded.

If you haven't visited the Whitewater Cemetery before, you should certainly make plans for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday. Chances are you've seen it a hundred times when driving down Highway 50 towards Delta. It's located at the top of the hill in Whitewater, just north of Highway 50. You've probably seen the American Flag flying high atop the hill.

There is a parking area near the gate. Please Note: There is a short walk from the parking area to the cemetery. The pathway is dirt and a little rocky. Those needing assistance walking should take extra precaution.
