Join Grand Junction Police for ‘National Coffee With a Cop Day’
These events are everywhere. They're multiplying! The "Coffee With a Cop" sessions hosted by the Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Sheriff's Office are always great. This week alone, there are several sessions taking place. Check out the special event coming up Wednesday.
Wednesday, October 2, 2019, is National Coffee With a Cop Day. This Wednesday, you can visit with members of the Grand Junction Police Department to ask questions, express concerns, and share any thoughts you may have, all over a delicious cup of coffee.
Somehow, I've never heard of "National" Coffee With a Cop Day. As it turns out, this is the fourth year they've done this. According to the Coffee With a Cop website:
National Coffee with a Cop day is a day dedicated to encourage communication and positive interactions between law enforcement agencies and the public. The day began as part of National Community Policing Week in 2016 and now continues each year on the first Wednesday in October furthering efforts nationwide to bridge the gap between the community and the law.
This meeting is coming to Starbucks at 1350 North Avenue. Police will be on hand from 8 am to 10 am to meet with you and answer your questions. There are no speeches, and no agendas. This is simply a chance to meet with authorities face to face in a casual atmosphere.
As I've said a thousand times, I love these events. Sometimes you have matters you want to "discuss" with police. These matters don't necessitate a visit or call to the police department. That's what these events are for.
Once again, these are my top five reasons why you should attend each "Coffee With a Cop" session:
- No speeches or agendas, just questions and answers
- The coffee is always good
- It's a chance to ask questions in an informal setting
- It’s an opportunity to discuss matters that don’t necessitate a call or visit to the Police Department
- It’s a great opportunity to connect with local law enforcement
There are two other Coffee With a Cop meetings in the valley this week. One is at Colorado Mesa University, and the other is at Monument Village Coffee. Makes plans to attend at least one. Better yet, catch them all.
