Every Wednesday night from roughly 6:30 to 9:00, Grand Junction area musical group The Desert Flyer Band rehearses and partakes in a weekly selection of fine adult beverages. Here, they share their notes and critique each week's selected beverage. Join us for this week's Desert Flyer Band "Booze in Review."

For this week's review, the Desert Flyer Band has selected Jim Beam Black, a premium bourbon aged eight years, meant to be sipped and savored. The 86-proof, double-aged bourbon spends eight years in a charred, white oak barrel, twice as long as original Jim Beam. The extra aging and special charred barrel is what provides the full bodied flavor with caramel and warm oak notes.

This particular bourbon received the highest marks by the Beverage Tasting Institute for "North American Whiskey," with a high score of 93.

After sampling Jim Beam Black at last night's rehearsal, the members of the Desert Flyer Band offer this week's review.

"While it definitely starts off with the sharp bite you've come to expect from Jim Beam, it quickly mellows into what can only be described as a smooth after-glow. I'll give it a rating of four out of five dancing bananas." - Greg Achord, lead vocals/lead guitar

"I really don't drink bourbon, or for that matter, much of anything alcoholic. Keep in mind, I can get wasted off of two domestic light beers. However, I found this beverage very smooth, with the darker, woodier taste I enjoy. That, combined with fact it didn't make me puke, gives it a solid score of four dancing bananas." - Waylon Jordan - bass

Jim Beam Black can be purchased at local stores in the $43 range for the 175 ML.

Join us next week for the Desert Flyer Band's "Booze in Review" when they sample Cutty Sark Scotch.
