Just when everyone in Colorado - except me, for the record - was thinking the Denver Broncos were just throwing the towel in this offseason and preparing to ride with the same guys as last year, they've pulled off a pretty big trade.

The Broncos have agreed to trade their 2026 first and third round picks to the Miami Dolphins for 27-year old wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.

The teams will also swap their fourth round picks in this year's draft.

Waddle was the Dolphins' first round pick in 2021, being selected 6th overall out of Alabama, and has been a pretty remarkable playmaker for an otherwise pretty sub par Dolphins team.

Because the Broncos are the only NFL team this offseason not to sign an outside free agent, in spite of having quite a bit of salary cap space, many were saying the Broncos hadn't been aggressive enough. Others had speculated it was all part of a larger plan and Denver would find a way to make some sort of splash... and this is definitely that splash.

Waddle has posted some really solid numbers in his five years in the league and gives quarterback Bo Nix a really great receiver on the other side of Courtland Sutton, in addition to the likes of Marvin Mims, Troy Franklin and Pat Bryant.

For those wondering if Waddle is worth a first round pick - ask yourself this. If you could guarantee the number 30 pick of the draft would put up the kind of numbers Waddle should put up this year, would you make that pick? Of course you would.
