Each year on the final day of January people across the country celebrate the classic that is hot chocolate.

The beverage is believed to have been invented by the Mayans a couple thousand years ago. It was a big part of the Aztec culture and brought back to Europe after it was discovered in the New World. Up until the 19th century, many used hot chocolate to treat ailments. It's doubtful if it was of much help.

I'm a fan, especially at cold winter football games. During those late December and occasional January playoff games at Arrowhead Stadium, there's nothing like a little hot chocolate to warm you up. Of course, we'd grab a few small bottles of Ice 101, that's 101 proof peppermint schnapps, and sneak them into the game. Buy yourself a hot chocolate from the concession stand and pour in a little 101 proof for "Peppermint Patties" and you'd be warm to your core for most of the game.

So on this National Hot Chocolate Day where can one find the best in Grand Junction? Based on some recent info I came across, a few places seem to stand out for the hot stuff.

The Baker's Boutique- Located at 726 24 Road here in Grand Junction, it's well known for its cupcakes, wedding cakes, birthday cakes, and they also sell baking supplies. They have an espresso bar and some of the best hot chocolate in town.

Roasted- Downtown on the corner of 5th and Colorado they've been dishing out some of the best coffee and sandwiches in town for years. Word is that make a mean hot chocolate too.

Copeka Coffee- They have a full menu of toasts, salads, soups, sandwiches, and more. Located at 1012 North 5th in Grand Junction you'll also want to treat yourself to one of their gourmet coffees. They offer several different styles of coffee plus, of course, hot chocolate.

Of course, the cool thing to do is to upload a selfie with your hot cocoa. Be sure and join the party by using the hashtag #NationalHotChocolateDay!
