It’s Late May in Colorado – Time to Ski
Didn't I just get a sunburn while pulling weeds about two weeks ago. Here it is May, and some Colorado ski resorts are open for business.
Seriously, I posted a month ago about the jungle of weeds overtaking my back yard. Now, May 22, reports are coming in of ski resorts re-opening to take advantage of the new snow.
KOAA News 5 reports Purgatory will reopen this weekend, hosting both summer and winter activities. The resort will be open Saturday and Sunday, May 25 and 26, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. What's the occasion? Well, the 15 inches of fresh snow and the 42-inch base might have something to do with it.
Okay, how much? Lift tickets are:
- $29 adults
- $22 teenagers
- $19 children
- $23 for those ages 65-79
- Those under the age of 10 or over the age of 80 ski free
I wonder if I can get a fake ID showing an age of 81. It could work. Most of us have never seen a lift pass priced as low as $29. Don't count on ever seeing it again. Let's ski.
Okay, so Purgatory is a pretty macho drive from the Grand Junction area. You'll find Purgatory Resort 30 miles north of Durango. Google Maps puts it at a little over three hours from Grand Junction.
As a lifelong resident of Western Colorado, I'm really getting a kick out of this. I can remember years when we were already prepping to battle wildfires in May. While I don't think it's possible, it sure would be cool to catch one more ski trip before the season "really" ends.
