Did you hear a 100-year-old photo of an iceberg believed to have sunk the Titanic is being auctioned off next month!

When I was writing this story I felt compelled to say, "And if you'll buy that, I have some ocean front property in Arizona for you too!"

But this is serious, the black-and-white photo shows a huge iceberg with a distinctive elliptical shape.

Now I'm sure you're like me and asking yourself, "How do they have any idea THIS is THE killer iceburg?"

  1. Well apparently it was taken April 12, 1912, just 2 days before the Titanic was sent to the bottom of the North Atlantic, killing 1,502 people.
  2. It was taken by the captain of the S.S. Etonian, and bears the caption: "Copyright. Blueberg taken by Captain W.F. Wood S.S. Etonian on 12/4/12 in Lat 41 degrees 50 N Long 49 degrees 50 W. Titanic struck 14/4/12 and sank in three hours."
  3. Although there have been no photos of the iceberg before this one surfaced, 2 crew members of the Titanic did however draw sketches what they saw, both of which are similar to the photo.
  4. Additionally, the coordinates written on the photo are near where the wreckage of the Titanic lies on the ocean floor.

Do you think it's the Iceberg that sank the Titanic?
