There's a strong possibility you've already been burned by an ongoing IRS phone scam in Mesa County, and it seems this scam isn't going away any time soon. Be on the lookout for phone calls from someone claiming to be with the IRS.

Please remember, the IRS WILL NOT call you. They don't do that. They send letters. Residents of Mesa County are continuing to receive calls from someone claiming to be an officer with the Internal Revenue Service.

The voice on the other side of the phone claims you've made a tax error and owe money. They will then step it up a notch by threatening you with an arrest if you don't pay.

While a few minor details have changed since this scam first appeared in Mesa County, it's still pretty much the same old routine. The Mesa County Sheriff's Office encourages you to spread the word!

Please keep in mind, there are members of society, namely the elderly, who aren't big on social media, and may have no other way of knowing about this scam other than word of mouth. Get the word out!
