If you thought your allergies we're going to get better now that summer's almost over, think again, burn season begins this month!

Fire restrictions were a significant part of the summer, but all of them have been rescinded and open burning will be allowed this fall from September 1st through October 31st.

Remember before burning you are required to obtain a burn permit from either the Grand Junction, Lower Valley and Clifton Fire Departments or the Mesa County Health Department.

Burning is allowable only for dry weeds, garden waste, irrigation ditches, and tree or shrub trimmings less than 1” in diameter.

Every year local fire departments respond to out-of-control weed fires that create unnecessary property loss and resource use, that's why we're reminding you to closely follow the requirements for safe burning listed on your permit.

Another issue that the Fire Department is seeing an increase in is the number of emergency medical responses due to smoke from open burning.

Burn permits in Grand Junction cost $15.00 and you can purchase them by mail or pick them up at the administrative office at 333 West Avenue Building E in GJ.
