It's National Screen Free week! Do you know how much time they recommend you allow your children? Find out here and get ideas on other activities to enjoy with your family!

Today we're chatting with Dr. Barb Zind a pediatrician with the Western Colorado Pediatrics Association about how to create healthy lifestyles for your family.

This week is National Screen Free week, which means taking time away from your computer or TV.

Dr. Zind says,It's really important for kids to take a break because,

  1. They will get accustomed to the TV being on all the time
  2. They will forget how to play
  3. Contributes to obesity
  4.  They recommend less than two hours a day of screen time for children and for preschoolers less than one hour.

Mesa County Health Department also offers a FREE toolkit called "Lets Go! 5, 2, 1, 0"

  • 5-Eat five fruits and veggies a day
  • 2-Less than two hours of screen time a day
  • 1- Hour or more of physical activity a day
  • 0-Sweetened beverages, they recommend just water or milk
