Up to two feet of snow dumped over the Cameron Peak and East Troublesome fires, but officials say it won't be enough to fully extinguish the flames.

Large downed logs and other fuels within the fire continue to smolder. The trees maintain the heat. These fuels are expected to fire back up as conditions dry out and warm up this weekend.

Officials estimate the most recent snow will be fully melted by about Nov. 6.

Firefighters, of course, are thankful for the snowfall. Official Tuesday (Oct. 27) reports say the Cameron Peak Fire has been held in place at 208,663 acres and the East Troublesome Fire at 192,560 acres.

Officials said in a Tuesday video update update that "the snow is giving us a great opportunity" to focus on problem areas.

Crews, however, have been limited the past couple days with below freezing temperatures causing issues for using water and putting firefighters at risk for hypothermia.

More than 1,500 are currently assigned to the Cameron Peak Fire. Another 800 are currently assigned to the East Troublesome Fire.

The Cameron Peak Fire, currently at 64% containment, is projected to reach full containment by Nov. 8. The East Troublesome Fire, currently at 20% containment, is projected to reach full containment by Nov. 10.
