Cameron Peak Fire

It's been one year since Colorado's largest wildfire ignited west of Fort Collins on August 13, 2020.

Even months after the Cameron Peak Fire's full containment, some of Colorado's forests are still closed to the public. However, this week, some areas reopened.

While the National Park Service continues to assess East Troublesome Fire damage, more of the park is now accessible, including Bierstadt Trail.

2020 has been a year like no other, while the country experienced a pandemic, shutdowns, protests and a pretty wild election season.

The Wren Fire broke out on a private property.

More staff will be added in the coming days as crews put the finishing touches by working on suppression repair and rehabilitation.

After 111 days of burning in Northern Colorado, the Cameron Peak Fire reached 100% containment on Wednesday night (Dec. 2).

Jason Phillips arrived in Colorado on August 10 and spent two weeks fighting the Cameron Peak fire before coming down with COVID-like symptoms at the end of his shift on August 25.

Firefighters from around the country have been working to extinguish the Cameron Peak Fire for more than 100 days.

The fire has been sitting over 208,913 acres since Nov. 2. Containment is at 92% as of Thursday's morning's official update.
