Musicians from the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra offer "Symphony Story Time" for young children in Western Colorado. This is an opportunity for young children to get a hands on introduction to music and musical instruments, all at no charge.

Bring the entire family to the Mesa County Central Library at 5th and Grand this Saturday, January 16, at 10:00 am. Musicians will be on hand, giving children an up-close look at a wide variety of musical instruments, some of which they may have never seen before.

Here's a scary thought: my musical career actually began with a program very similar to this. I was introduced to the violin via a demonstration aimed towards familiarizing young children with music and encouraging them to pursue music education.

When it was all said and done, I was hooked, and am still playing some 35 years later. You would think by now I would have figured it out.

What a great opportunity for families to spend time together and explore the wonders of music. Make a date out of it. Programs such as this have been carried out by organizations such as the Oregon Symphony for years, always with amazing results.

Support music education, the arts, and the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra, all while enjoying a free family event. Check out Symphony Story Time at the Mesa County Central Library.
