Grand Lake in Serious Danger as East Troublesome Fire Expands
These wildfires just continue to burn all across the state of Colorado. According to The Denver Channel, the East Troublesome Fire exploded in size to now 125,677 acres and has forced evacuations around Grand Lake.
At 1 a.m. this morning the Grand County sheriff said, "I don't know what we'll see in the morning, to be honest"
This is obviously very alarming for anyone living in Grand County. Especially considering the fire was at 19,086 acres and 104% contained on Wednesday evening. The next update showed the fire growing to around 39,000 acres, then we saw it expand like crazy growing to 125,677 acres. This means it's already the fourth-largest wildfire in Colorado history.
On Wednesday all residents in Grand Lake were forced to evacuate, this included all residents north, west, and along Highway 34. The evacuations also included the area east of Highway 125 from milepost 5 to Highway 40. For everyone in the area that hasn't been evacuated, many are preparing just in case the evacuation order gets expanded.
There is an evacuation center set up at the Inn at Silver Creek located at 62927 US-40 in Grandby.
The strong winds were the reason for the major expansion of the fire. Let's hope today the weather and wind in the area cooperate with fire crews as they attempt to get this blaze under control.
As you can expect the public is being asked to avoid the area so fire crews can get to work without distractions. Please keep these heroic individuals in your thoughts and prayers today.
