Grand Junction is one of five Colorado cities this weekend hosting a start-up competition that ultimately will pay the top teams $25,000.

The competition is being held at the Business Incubator in Grand Junction Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

It all starts Friday evening when teams are formed and then spend a good part of the weekend building, testing, and validating their start up idea. On Sunday evening a pitch is made to a panel of judges and the top two teams from Grand Junction move on to compete  in a final state wide challenge in May.Of the 10 regional finalists at the state competition, the top three will win $25,000.

The general idea is for the teams to build apps - based on public data- to help businesses make smarter decisions.

Registration for the event is free at gocodegj.com and is open to entrepreneurs of all types and experience levels. Coders, designers, marketers, accountants, lawyers, and others are welcome to participate.

Grand Junction is hosting this competition for the second year in a row. Registrations for this year have exceeded the number from last year's event. Who knows, maybe one of these Grand Junction teams will end up with one of the $25,000 prizes.
