Many western Colorado events are not being held this year, but the Grand Junction Walk to End Alzheimer's is moving forward as scheduled.

The annual walk is slated for Saturday, October 3, however, unlike previous years, the walk will not be held at a specific location where all of the walkers gather for a unified event. Instead, walkers are being instructed to all walk at the same time in their own neighborhoods, or a designated place specified by their team. This way, the fund-raising effort can still go on and at the same time while minimizing health risk and keeping everyone safe.

On the morning of the walk, participants will be invited to view the opening ceremony online before starting out on their walk. The ceremony will highlight the mission of the Alzheimer's Association and their work in western Colorado, sponsors, volunteers, and how the community can make a difference in the fight against Alzheimer's. I will be emceeing the video ceremony and we'll hear from several special guests during the brief present

Anyone who wants to walk for the cause either individually or with a team can sign up on the ALZ website. The website is also a great resource for caregivers who are in need of support and assistance as they care for a loved one suffering from Alzheimer's.

Another way everyone can get involved - even if you aren't walking - is to be on the lookout for fundraisers being held by various teams. Sometimes a team will have a yard sale or a bake sale to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association.

La Villa Grande Care Center is having a Drive-Thru Chance Drawing on Tuesday, September 1 from 10:00 am until 2:00pm at their facility, located at 2501 Little Bookcliff Drive. They are giving away 11 different baskets featuring a variety of items including a spa basket, a fitness basket, a Glenwood Springs getaway, and a Grill Friend basket with over $200 worth of quality meat. You simply stop by and purchase as many tickets as you want. All the proceeds go to the Alzheimer's Association and the drawing will be held September 25.

You will be hearing more about the Grand Junction Walk to End Alzheimer's over the next month and I hope that you will find an opportunity to get involved and support this year's walk in some capacity.
