The Grand Junction Police Department is now "actively" investigating a cold case homicide from 1975 and asking for the public's help in solving the case.

According to the GJPD, on December 27, 1975, police officers were called to an apartment complex at 1029 Belford Avenue. The manager of the complex was apparently concerned because numerous calls to a tenant in the apartment had gone unanswered. When the manager entered the apartment with a master key, he discovered the body of 19-year-old Deborah Tomlinson. A bedroom window was open, and the toilet was running.

Tomlinson's body was found lying in the bathtub, partially clothed. Authorities say she had been bound, sexually assaulted, and strangled. There was a gash on her forehead, which police suggest possibly indicates she fought with the attacker. Police found no evidence of a weapon being used in the attack.

The Grand Junction Police Department is wanting to provide some closure for Tomlinson's family and is urging anyone who may know something about the murder to speak up.

If you do have information that could help in the investigation you are asked to contact Corporal Brand Ludwig of the GJ Police Department at 970-683-3404.
