According to the Mesa County Communications Officers’ Association, four area hospitals will participate in a full-scale hazmat training exercise this Friday (October 25).

The VA Medical Center, Community Hospital, Family Health West, and St. Mary’s Hospital will participate in the Grand Junction Locomotion Commotion, which will begin at 10:15 a.m. Friday.

The Grand Junction Locomotion Commotion is a full-scale exercise designed to establish a learning environment for players to exercise emergency response plans, policies, and procedures as they pertain to external chemical threats, health care first receiver decontamination, and triage during a mass casualty incident.

Other response organizations participating in this event include Mesa County Office of Emergency Management, Mesa County EMS (emergency medical services), and Mesa County Health Department.

Collbran Job Corps, Medical Reserve Corps, and Grand Junction Regional Communication Center will also participate in Friday’s training exercise.
