Do you remember a subtle reference to Grand Junction, Colorado, on an episode of a popular sketch comedy show airing on HBO in the late 1990s? Neither do I, but it did.

Let's go back almost 25 years and catch a brief moment of glory for Grand Junction on "Mr. Show."

Grand Junction People Have Super-Human Vision

Here's a big shout-out to Michael Randois and his post on the Facebook page "You Know You're From Grand Junction When..." Michael must have super-vision because I don't believe I would have ever have caught this. Then again, Elvis could walk through my studio and I would be like, "Did someone just walk through here? Huh?"

Grand Junction on HBO

The show was called Mr. Show with Bob and David, or as some simply called it, Mr. Show. Until today, November 15, 2021, I had never heard of this program. According to Wikipedia, Mr. Show ran from November 1995 to December 1998 on HBO.

This particular episode was episode 3 of season 2. The episode was entitled "The Biggest Failure in Broadway History." FUN FACT: The airdate for this episode was almost 25 years ago - November 29, 1996.

What's The Reference to Grand Junction?

Check out Mary Lynn Rajskub in the light green shirt. Do you see what's imprinted on the shirt? Okay, so the Grand Junction reference has no significance when it comes to the storyline, but who cares?

Just last week another sharp Grand Junction resident spotted a painting of Western Colorado's Mt. Garfield on the pilot episode of the original Miami Vice. Grand Junction is everywhere.

Looking back to 1983, I can remember people lining up at the old Monument Twin Cinemas to see the movie War Games. Why? The lead character mentioned the name Grand Junction at some point in the movie, and we all had to go to the theater to witness it for ourselves. It was a big deal.

Thanks again to Michael Randois for this awesome find. I'm going to have to check out more episodes of this show.
