Grand Junction Crowns Its Most ‘Huggable Drummer’

The results are in! You were asked to vote for the Grand Junction drummer most deserving of a hug. It's time to crown our champion.

Yesterday, October 10, was "National Hug a Drummer Day." I have tremendous respect for drummers. They don't typically get the love they deserve. They have to haul more stuff than any other member of the band. Their setup takes five times longer than anyone else in the band. Yet, with all the burdens that come with the job, they literally keep chugging along.

We put together a long list of drummers. The vote went up last Tuesday, October 8. After a handful of days of aggressive voting, we have our champion. As determined by your votes, the Grand Junction drummer most deserving of a hug is:

Congratulations Dr. Kamstra. What a victory! As you may know, Dr. Kamstra was named Department Head for the music department at Colorado Mesa University. His students must really love him. Early in the voting process, Dr. Kamstra chimed in via social media:

You see, in the original post, I included a handful of drummer jokes. There are tons of band jokes out there, but drummers seem to get picked on the most. On that note, pun intended, here's a drum joke:

How do you get a drummer off of your porch?
Pay him 10 bucks for the pizza.

Of course, there were some strong showings from other area drummers including Rob Labig from the Western Colorado Jazz Orchestra, and Max McFarland from the Desert Flyer Band.

Congratulations Dr. Kamstra. Lookout Grand Junction drummers, we'll do this again next October. With each passing year there are always new up and coming drummers on the scene. For the time being, though, Dr. Kamstra is the reigning king of "huggable drummers."
