After a 5-2 vote, it is official. North Avenue will be no more.

Last night was a historic night. A Grand Junction City Council vote that definitely will get the people of Grand Junction talking. Beginning next year, North Avenue will cease to exist. From that point on, this iconic stretch of road will be known as University Boulevard.

Cost? $22,000.

Now, the impact of this decision is yet to be known, socially and economically. But, as many of you posted on our Facebook page when the possibility first surfaced, this would be a colossal mistake to change something so entrenched with Grand Junction history. Not to mention the effect it will have on the countless businesses along this road.

I am a tried-and-true believer in legacy and tradition. I do not see the logical thinking behind this decision. It is supposed to be in line with this program to increase CMU's student population to 20,000 students. So, how does this exactly help that happen?
