Glenwood Springs Fire Causes Evacuations
A wildland fire that started Wednesday in Glenwood Springs briefly caused evacuations in the Sunrise Court area of the city.
Just before three in the afternoon Wednesday, the Glenwood Springs Fire Department, the Carbondale Fire Department, Colorado River rescue, as well as law enforcement, responded to the fire.
Helicopters made several drops as well as two tankers each dropping loads of fire retardant on the blaze.
Nearly 20 acres burned Wednesday and after several hours, the residents of the area were allowed to return home around 7:30 p.m.
With very little precipitation recently, areas are very dry and, with Labor Day coming this weekend, officials across Colorado are asking for people to be extra careful this weekend. If camping, make sure are fires are fully extinguished before leaving the campsite. Labor Day weekend often sees a spike in human-caused fires.
There is no indication at this time what started this fire.
