With colder weather coming, the leaves will start falling faster, and the City of Grand Junction is getting ready for Leaf Pickups. Here is all of the information that you might need if you live within the leaf pickup areas.

The purpose of the program is to eliminate excess leaf build-up along Grand Junction streets that can cause stormwater drains to clog. These efforts help prevent flooding and reduce negative impacts affecting our water quality. Leaves collected during this program are taken to the Mesa County Organic Materials Composting Facility where they are recycled and turned into compost. Over 10,000 cubic yards of leaves are collected every year.

The City has been divided into five different areas, with specific rake-out dates assigned to each. A post card is mailed to City residents the first week of October. These postcards are specific to residents in each area and contain only the rake-out dates for that area. Please keep this postcard so you can refer back to your scheduled rake-out dates. You can view the Leaf Collection online map for your dates if you misplaced the card. They also have all of the Rake-out dates for 2015 online.

You can also take leaves to the Mesa County Compost Facility web page through the fall months absolutely free of charge. They will create compost for you to use in the spring from the materials.

If you have any questions or comments, you can email the City of Grand Junction here.
