You can participate in Colorado marijuana research - and get paid to do it.

If you smoke marijuana, you could earn a little cash by participating in a study designed to understand how cannabis use affects driving performance. The study also includes evaluating the performance of non-users for comparison.

Here's what is required of study participants.

* Two in-person visits
* Blood drawn up to two times
* Keep a diary of medicine, alcohol, and marijuana use between visits
* Complete a urine drug screen and alcohol breathalyzer test
* Perform a series of assessments including a simulated driving test, and testing of various cognitive abilities related to driving

When you apply to participate in the study you will be asked a series of personal and health-related questions. If you meet all the criteria, they will ask for your name and continue the process.

The first visit takes about 90 minutes while the second visit can take up to four hours. You get $20 for completing the first study visit, and $120 after you complete the second visit.

The effect of pot use on driving is one of the unknowns since Colorado legalized recreational marijuana. Are stoned drivers a hazard on Colorado highways? Research on the subject has been extremely limited so this is a step in the right direction.

The study is being conducted by the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. If you are interested in participating in the research, here's the link.
