I can still remember the first time I heard the story about Mike the headless chicken. Made famous in Fruita, Colorado in 1945, this little guy was about to be somebody's Sunday dinner and instead lived another 18 months without it's head attached.

These days the legend is so popular there is a statue, and even a headless chicken mascot, that can be spotted from time to time running around the Fruita/Grand Junction area. I laughed out loud when looking at the video above of the Fruita Christmas Parade of Lights when I saw that someone had made a holiday float of a chicken. A nice tribute with a holiday twist. The photo below obviously shows the head intact. Keeping it classy for Christmas

All fun and games aside, Fruita's Christmas Parade is back on December 14th thanks to the Fruita Area Chamber of Commerce and Grand Valley Power. This year's theme is "Holiday Traditions". Fruita's parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by the Christmas Tree lighting at 6:30 p.m.
Be sure to stick around after the parade if you entered a float in the Parade of Lights contest, or if you entered the Window Wonderland decorating contest. Winners will be announced following the parade.

Merry Christmas to all, including our own "Headless Mike".
