Five Things You Don’t Want to Miss at Grand Junction Oktoberfest
The festival season is quickly winding down, but one of the best festivals of the year is yet to come. Here are five things you don't want to miss at this year's Oktoberbest on Saturday, October 4th in downtown Grand Junction.
- 1
Wiener Dog Races
This is certainly one of the highlights of the day, and if you are a dog lover and have never witnessed wiener dog racing, you don't want to miss this. The dogs are cute, of course, but watching their little ears flopping along as they bounce down the "race track" makes them irresistable! If you have a wiener dog to race, it's just $10 to register.

German Food and Beer
Admission to the festival is free, so you can save your money for some good old fashioned German food, like a brat and kraut, and German beer. It's a special treat, so just plan to have a delicious dinner downtown. I'm definitely interested in check out some German desserts.

Great Polka Music
Okay, so maybe you don't want to listen to polka ALL the time, but it actually is pretty fun on occasion to just polka down. The Bookcliff Barbershop Chorus will be on hand plus Al and the Polka Dots adult band, along with Alan Severson doing polks and waltzes. You probably should freshen up on your Beer Barrel Polka and make sure you remember all the words.
- 4
Nail Pounding Contest
There is a variety of contests at Oktoberfest, but this one separates the men from, well, the rest of the men.Is it about power or speed, or skill and technique. You have a week to practice up!

Street Dance
The day winds down with a free Street Dance featuring Alpine Echo. You can just come, let your hair down, relax, and have some fun. I have to warn you, I am no dancer, so please don't laugh at me.The street dance runs from 4:00 until 8:00pm.
