This Saturday, June 20, marks the first day of summer, and the first day of the Fruita Farmers Market. Here's what you can expect for this 2020 season.

According to the event's official webpage, opening day of the market includes local vendors showcasing local produce, ready-to-eat food, local artists, handmade crafts, and more.

Opening day will feature:

  • Horse drawn carriage rides
  • Be Crepeful food truck
  • Yoga in the Park hosted by Tru: a Wellness Co. and Thrive Yoga! (You must register for this. No drop in allowed. Be sure to bring your own mat. Register here.)

The market will be held at Reed Park Saturday mornings from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

According to the official webpage, this market participates in the SNAP & Double Up Food Buck Program. I have to admit I've never heard of this. According to doubleupfoodbucks.org:

Fair Food Network’s Double Up Food Bucks program doubles the value of federal nutrition (SNAP or food stamps) benefits spent at participating markets and grocery stores, helping people bring home more healthy fruits and vegetables while supporting local farmers. The wins are three-fold: low-income consumers eat more healthy food, local farmers gain new customers and make more money, and more food dollars stay in the local economy.

What about social distancing guidelines? Hand sanitizing stations will be provided, and well as hand washing stations. All vendors have been instructed to wear masks. If you're interested in making a purchase, but do not want to attend the market, online ordering and curbside pickup will be available starting June 27. To place an online order, visit the WhatsGood app or www.fruitafarmersmarket.org.

Looking ahead, it's hard to imagine a better day to kick of the Fruita Farmers Market. The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies with a high of 91 for Saturday.
