I bought a house a year and a half back, and this past week I got to experience the joys of do-it-yourself home improvements on a grand scale. Every muscle in my body is screaming in pain, but the work is done and things look great.

I was fortunate enough to have my Dad and Mom visit me for a few days to get some of the major items done. I love owning a house, but in my physical condition, after taking a bad fall about 10 years ago, I am limited in what I can accomplish by myself. Plus, I needed my dad's extreme intelligence to figure some things out.

We worked from 9:00 a.m. until nearly dark for two and a half days and accomplished everything I felt needed to be done now, but every night the muscles were screaming in agony. As you can guess, sitting in front of a mike for a few hours every day is not exactly the most physically strenuous job around. I have not used a lot of the muscles that were needed for the tasks at hand for a long time. I was lucky enough that sometimes with heat and ice before going to bed did the trick most nights.

The front yard looks great, and I can now reseed the yard and get it to grow. The landscaping in the front is pretty again and the front yard is all enclosed by fencing. The cooler is on for the summer too. There were a lot of smaller project that were completed also. It was a busy two and a half days, but a lot was accomplished and now I get to enjoy how great everything looks.

Owning a home has a lot of benefits, and it takes some work to get things the way you want them and to keep things looking nice. The upkeep is easier once you get the work all done.  The pain will fade with time too. We even had time, once all the work was done, to visit the Art and Music Festival downtown before my parents left.
