Just  because winter weather is here, it doesn't mean that runners can't get out and hit the streets. The Santa Cause 5K Fun Run is almost here, and, believe it or not, there are lots of people who are excited about it.

Sure, most of us have visions of hot cocoa and sugar cookies by the fireplace dancing around in our head, but, the fact is, there are folks who run just can't run enough - no matter what the weather may be doing. Of course, the weather is likely to be extremely cold - just like at the North Pole.

For those so inclined, the Santa Cause 5K Run provides the opportunity to get together with other cold-weather runners to have some fun, do something reasonably healthy, and support a good cause.

The Grand Junction Parks and Rec Department is teaming up with the Grand Junction Kiwanis International for a super-fun event on December 17. Everyone who gets pre-registered will get a Santa hat and beard, plus a long sleeve shirt.

There's also a 1K event for kids, who will each receive reindeer antlers.

Proceeds from the event go toward the purchase of all-inclusive playground equipment in Grand Junction.

So, whether you want to run, walk, jog, trot, or jingle all the way, get signed up for the Santa Cause 5K Fun Run!
