As cases of COVID-19 continue to be diagnosed around the country, District 51 is taking precautions by canceling all school-sponsored trips during the month of March.

In a statement on March 9, the District 51 Superintendant, Dr. Diana Sirko said,

Based on the recent information and guidance sent out by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, and the Mesa County Public Health Department, we are issuing a travel directive for the remainder of March that we have NO school-sponsored trips out of state or out of the country.  As the situation is changing on an hourly basis, we will examine the status of the disease progression at the end of March or before, if needed, and make any determinations for April at that time.

The district said they're not "making this directive lightly," especially since these trips take effort to plan and the excitement to take these trips, but the staff and student's safety is the most important factor.

The statement also said that district schools will receive disinfection over spring break.
