Denver Broncos Name Vic Fangio New Head Coach
The Denver Broncos reached an agreement today with Vic Fangio, former Defensive Coordinator for the Chicago Bears to be their 17th head coach.
Fangio led the Bears defense to the league lead in scoring defense and rushing and will now seek to lead the Broncos back to the playoffs, somewhere they have not gone since winning Super Bowl 50.
Since winning the Super Bowl, the Broncos have had successive losing seasons for the first time in a generation and are positioned to draft tenth in the 2019 draft, one that is full of defensive players.
Mike Munchak, Chuck Pagano, and others were interviewed for the position that went to Fangio, who will now be free to select assistants that will, it is hoped, help the team turn the corner and get back to playing winning football.
Fangio has never been a head coach in the NFL but has been a widely respected coordinator and assistant for years.
Former Head Coach and Super Bowl winner Gary Kubiak is expected to take a role in the offense, possibly as Offensive Coordinator.
Fangio signed a four-year contract with a team option for a fifth year.
