Colorado Faces Ongoing Risks: Three Fires To Watch This Fall

As we transition into fall, several fires are still burning around the Centennial State. Keep reading to take a closer look at three fires still causing concern near Grand Junction and around the state.
Prarie Fire Near Mesa County
Not far from Grand Junction, a wildfire has burned almost 2000 acres on the Utah side of the state line. This blaze is classified as "extreme" and is located just southeast of Hat Rock in Grand County, Utah. Smoke from this fire can be seen south of Fruita in the Colorado National Monument according to Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit.
Tschuddi Fire Near Meeker, Colorado
14 miles Northwest of Meeker, Colorado, another wildfire has burned through more than 500 acres. The Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office is concerned that September rains through the burn area could cause mudslides and rockfall that could interfere with travel in the area. The Tschuddi Fire is about 20% contained. Hunters hoping to be in the area this fall should call the White River Field Office with questions about areas affected by the fire. They can be reached at 970-878-3800.

The Pearl Fire in Laramie County has burned 129 acres but is already causing a level three evacuation Northwest of the Red Feather Lakes. With the fire less than 10% contained, Governor Polis has declared this a disaster area with about 150 workers attending to the fire.
