While we're not out of the woods yet, Western Colorado should give thanks that the summer's wildfires did not get any worse than they did. For a time, things looked pretty bleak with the King's Canyon fire (Mesa County), Currant Creek fire (Delta County), and Bucktail fire (Montrose County) all burning at once.

Not far from Grand Junction, a wildfire has burned almost 2000 acres on the Utah side of the state line. This blaze is classified as "extreme" and is located just southeast of Hat Rock in Grand County, Utah. Smoke from this fire can be seen south of Fruita in the Colorado National Monument according to Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit.

14 miles Northwest of Meeker, Colorado, another wildfire has burned through more than 500 acres. The Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office is concerned that September rains through the burn area could cause mudslides and rockfall that could interfere with travel in the area. The Tschuddi Fire is about 20% contained. Hunters hoping to be in the area this fall should call the White River Field Office with questions about areas affected by the fire. Pearl Fire Near Red Feather Lakes

The Pearl Fire in Laramie County has burned 129 acres but is already causing a level three evacuation Northwest of the Red Feather Lakes. With the fire less than 10% contained, Governor Polis has declared this a disaster area with about 150 workers attending to the fire. High winds are expected in the area to close out the week making this a crucial time for battling the blaze. You can see a report on YouTube from 9News here.
