- Early Symptoms: Like a common cold—coughing, runny nose, mild fever, and occasional sneezing.
- Persistent Coughing: After 1-2 weeks, the cough becomes more intense and frequent.
- Other Symptoms: Fatigue, vomiting after coughing fits, and difficulty breathing.

Treatment for Pertussis
Protect yourself from this highly contagious illness by keeping good hygiene and washing your hands. While there is a vaccination for pertussis, it's possible to avoid it by staying away from sick people and washing your hands frequently.
The most common treatment for whooping cough is antibiotics. Erythromycin, azithromycin, or clarithromycin can kill Bordetella pertussis bacteria. Fever reducers and cough suppressants can also help support someone who is sick. Rest and staying hydrated are important factors in recovery.
