Colorado Senator Announces Presidential Bid
Another Colorado politician has announced his intentions to run for president.
Senator Michael Bennet formally threw his name in the running to represent the Democrat party on Thursday on "CBS This Morning."
Bennet joins a crowded collection of Democrat hopefuls, including former Colorado governor John Hickenlooper for whom Bennet previously served as chief of staff.
Bennet was initially appointed to the U.S. Senate in 2009 by former Colorado governor Bill Ritter when Ken Salazar vacated his seat to serve as U.S. Secretary of the Interior.
Bennet was then re-elected during the 2010 election, defeating Republican Ken Buck. Bennet also won re-election in 2016 over Republican challenger Darryl Glenn.
Bennet announced that he had prostate cancer in April. His younger brother James Bennet is the editorial page editor of the New York Times and announced on Thursday he will recuse himself from any work related to the 2020 presidential election.
