We've all been there with the "oh, what a nice day we're having" to the sudden "where the heck did this storm come from" panic.

Because being in Colorado means thunderstorms, and you probably are no stranger to that.

But now we have numbers to prove that no, you're not crazy, we really do a have a LOT of storms that roll through our state.

According to the National Weather Service, in an average year, about 500,000 lightning flashes hit the ground in Colorado.

The National Weather Service also states that Colorado ranks 4th in the Nation for fatalities (years 1959-2017).

So, when the thunder rolls stay indoors. Make sure that if you go hiking to be off that mountain before noon because most deaths occur between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m.
