Some of Colorado's Biggest Books
Colorado can be the perfect backdrop for so many different kinds of stories. Writers like Dalton Trumbo, Jack Kerouac, James Michener, and many others have found success in setting their stores in places like Denver, and Grand Junction.
Colorado's Best Seller
It just so happens that Stephen King really enjoyed setting some of his stories here in the Centennial State. He did live in the Boulder area for a while. His 1977 title "The Shining" is probably one of the best-selling books (fiction or non-fiction) set in the state of Colorado. The paperback version of this book has sold millions of copies.
Colorado's Notable Non-Fiction
The title dates back to 1873, but one of the most popular non-fiction books set in Colorado was written by British explorer Isabella Bird. "A Lady's Life in the Rocky Mountains" is pretty much a collection of letters Bird wrote to stay in touch with friends and family back in England. The travel memoir was so successful that Bird was invited to become a member of the Royal Geographical Society in 1892.
