Colorado Loves to Donate

Colorado is one of the most supportive states when it comes to organ, eye, and tissue donations.

In 2021 alone, 234 organ donors in Colorado and Wyoming gave the gift of life to 642 people here in our community.

Last year in the U.S. "organs were recovered from 13,863 deceased organ donors, resulting in 41,354 organ transplants performed across the U.S. resulting in a record-breaking year for deceased donation," according to DonateLifeColorado.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, 6,538 living donor transplants were performed in 2021.

Why You Should Be A Colorado Organ Donor

As a donor, you can save up to 8 lives and make difference to over 75 more.

Every 9 minutes another person is added to the waiting list for a donor. Tragically approximately 17 people die each day waiting for an organ transplant.

Currently, there are over 1,500 people waiting for a donor in our community, while over 100,000 people in the U.S. are waiting for a lifesaving transplant.

On average only 95 organ transplants are made each day in the United States

According to a survey in the U.S.  90% of adults support organ donation but only 60% are actually signed up as donors.

How to Become A Colorado Organ Donor

When renewing your driver's license you can elect to become a Colorado organ donor, but if you want to sign up before that time you can follow this link

You can even request that certain organs are not donated and register in memory of another person.

When you register as an organ, eye, and tissue donor you have made the decision to donate your organs, eyes, and tissues at the time of your death. When you register as an organ, eye, and tissue donor, your registration remains in effect unless you change it.
